Malahide Castle - Local attractions guide

Malahide Castle Demesne, Malahide

Malahide Castle is one of the oldest castles in the country and the only one which has been inhabited by the same family since its construction in 1185. The walls of the corridors and the rooms of the Castle are decorated with impressive portraits of the members of Talbot family.

Legend has it that before leaving for the Battle of Boyne in 1690, 14 Talbot cousins had their breakfast at the Castle, perhaps their last meal together. As an extension to the Malahide Catle in Irelandcastle, Lord Talbot de Malahide constructed the gorgeous and lush demesne which is said to contain over 4000 different species of trees, herbs and shrubs. Entry to the castle is paid and only through guided tour which is provided by Dublin Tourism.

The castle can also be hired with its Great Hall available for holding private banquets. A great venue for private events.
