Attractions worth seeing in Dublin
Trinity College, Book of Kells Book of four Gospels
The list of tourist attractions worth seeing in Dublin is very long. The Irish have always valued their heritage even during the dark days of the potato famine. The value that Ireland puts on its history and heritage is exemplified in the Old Library of Trinity College where, under subdued lighting, there lies an illuminated manuscript that is written in Latin and dates from the early 9th century. The Book of Kells is legendary and despite the great age of the vellum, it has been beautifully cared for over the generations. In the 17th century, the book of the four Gospels was gifted to Trinity College and varying pages within the manuscript are presented to the public each day.
Dublin Castle, Ireland
Another great monument to Ireland’s history is Dublin Castle. In the 9th century the Vikings built a castle on the site which the Normans replaced in the 13th century. Towards the end of the 17th century the Norman castle was
damaged by fire but repaired in the 18th century to provide an official residence for the Viceroy of Ireland and for the King and Queen of England when visiting. Today, Dublin castle still has an official function during parliamentary elections and when the President of Ireland is inaugurated.
National Botanic Gardens
A beautiful and tranquil place to visit in Dublin and one of its most charming attractions has to be the National Botanic Gardens. Set in nearly 20 hectares and founded by the Royal Dublin Society in 1795, the gardens boast an arboretum and stunning displays of plants and shrubs.
