Dublin shopping and shops
Dublin Culture and travel Advertising
The City of Dublin is a wonderful place to shop as the shops, markets and department stores are all within a fairly compact area by usual capital city standards.
Grafton Street and Stephen’s Green
Dublin has enjoyed high levels of investment over the last decade or so and has transformed itself from a slightly grimy city trailing in London’s wake to one that can boast two superb, pedestrianised shopping districts. To the south of the centre of Dublin are the pedestrianised streets around Grafton Street and Stephen’s Green which stretch north to Henry Street and the streets to the east and west.
Brown Thomas and Weirs
Crossing the river south to Grafton Street, the shops are definitely up market and here sho
ppers will find many charming and fashionable stores including Brown Thomas, Dublin’s most select department store that showcases the new lines of both established and up and coming fashion designers. Also in this select area for those unaffected by the credit crunch is Weirs, Dublin’s most select jeweller which is complemented by Bewley's Café which is one of Dublin’s historical tea houses.
Powers Court Shopping Mall, Clery's and Eason's
Not far away is an area called Powers Court, which is a more contemporary style of shopping mall. For people who love the smell of fresh produce, there is an indoor market in George’s Street.
On the north side of the river is Henry Street and here shoppers will find another major department store called Arnott’s and various other clothing and footwear stores. In Moore Street is an outdoor market and in neighbouring O’Connell Street are the booksellers, Eason’s, and the top drawer department store of Clery’s.
There are many other charming streets with excellent shops in Dublin, a city that genuinely welcomes browsers.
