Dublin International Marathon - annual events, Ireland

Dublin Marathon has been running for more than 30 years and takes place annually every October. Having first started in 1980 with roughly 2000 runners, the event has grown substantially and now is a major event in the cities anual calendar and attracts a lot of sponsorship and some of the qorlds top athletes.

The marathon normally starts at Fitzwilliam Square East and finishes at Merrion Square West after traversing though the spectacularly Georgian streets of Dublin and covering a total distance of 26 miles. Interesting, the Dublin weather is normally ideal for marathon running with temperatures october normaly between 10 and 15 celcuis.

As with many international marathons these days, the chip system is now used and this miniscule electronic device means that running times are recorded. There is no known Dublin marathonway that the participant can manipulate the timing on the chip and once he reaches the finishing line, he will be de-chipped and the time noted on the chip will be used for calculating the final results.

Apart from big industry sponsors, various charity organisations also have runners fundraining on their behalfs and this also means some great brand awareness for some the charities. A lot of volunteers are also always required for the smooth progress of the race and those who are interested can find information from the official Dublin Marathon website.
